Guest speaker: Lesley Foden – Round UK Rower

Get the festive season off to a lively start with the IoD Berkshire & Oxfordshire Branches and Business Forum Christmas lunch on Tuesday 12th December 2017 at Leander Club on the banks of the River Thames.

Drinks Reception sponsored by The Business Forum

The guest speaker will be Lesley Foden who, this summer, rowed around the entire coastline of Great Britain in support of the RNLI – 1800 miles in 8 weeks (at 60 years old). She cycled the coastline with her husband in 1995 and says she’d been yearning for another lap ever since. She describes herself as “a bit intrepid but not at all a professional adventurer”. This a sharp and paradoxical contrast with her day job as a still-life artist! Lesley rowed in an ocean-going rowing boat with three other rowers. The British weather threw everything at her, but she also saw spectacular sunrises and sunsets, a view of the UK coast that few of us get to see and some close encounters with some amazing wildlife. She will talk about her two-year training programme, how she motivated herself, the spectacular highs and lows on board and the practicalities of living on a tiny rowing boat for that time. She is an awesome lady with a great story!

There will be a raffle and auction in aid of the RNLI, who save lives by providing a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service, seasonal lifeguards, water safety education and initiatives, and flood rescue response. www.rnli.org

If you would like to donate a raffle or auction prize please email Julie Jones on mailto:admin.berks@iod.net

The price of the Christmas Lunch is £45.60 (inc VAT) and includes a drink on arrival, a three course meal, coffee, mince pies and wine.
